Need some help?

Leeds Beckett Students’ Union doesn’t provide specialist wellbeing or mental health support. However, as a Leeds Beckett Student, there is a range of services available for you. If you do find yourself needing urgent mental health support during your time at university, consult this page.

LBSU Advice Service

If you're having difficulties with your course, issues with your housing, or struggling with your finances - speak to our LBSU Advice Service. Our advisers are independent from the University, and can help look over contracts and important legislation related to issues you might be experiencing.

Leeds Beckett Students' Union

As your Students' Union, we exist to make make your time at university better. You can get involved with societies, volunteering, and campaigns, or get advice on a variety of issues with the SU Advice Service. The Hives (one at each campus) are SU run social spaces where you can grab some lunch, study or relax in your downtime.

Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing offers resources and information about events and services that can help you look after your mental health and wellbeing online. They also provide confidential short-term counselling and mental health support.

Our School Based Wellbeing Practitioners are working directly with your academic schools, offering guidance and support to enhance positive wellbeing and healthy behaviours.

You can contact your Student Money Officers for information and support in helping you apply for extra financial support such as our Hardship Fund.

Not to be confused with the LBSU Advice Service. If you've got a problem but are unsure about who you need to speak to, the Leeds Beckett Student Advice team can direct you to the place that's best.

Course Administrators

Your Course Admin are there to ensure that you have the smoothest possible student experience whilst studying with at Leeds Beckett. If you have a question about your course or if you experience any problems, they are a great first person to ask. Your Course Admin work closely with academic staff, so will be able to help with a range of academic queries. They can make referrals to teaching staff or to specialist professional services if needed.

Academic Advisors

Your academic adviser will teach on your course and is there to support your academic development, and will provide advice on how to get the most out of your learning experience here. You will usually meet with your academic adviser at least once per semester and they are likely to remain with you throughout your course. Initial meetings with your adviser may be specifically set up by them or scheduled into your timetable, but if you need their help between organised meetings then you can contact them. Later in your course you will normally take responsibility for organising the meetings.

Student Mind is the UK's student mental health charity.

They empower students and members of the university community to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after their own mental health, support others and create change. They train students and staff in universities across the UK to deliver student-led peer support interventions as well as research-driven workshops and campaigns.

Samaritans

Samaritans is a charity that supports people who are struggling - be that with their mental health, feeling lonely, or experiencing a difficult time. Whatever you're going through, a Samaritan will face it with you. Their helpline is run by trained volunteers, and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Yorkshire MESMAC

Yorkshire MESMAC is one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country.
