You should volunteer, it's such a great way to meet new people! Try volunteering, it will add experience to your CV! I am sure you heard these arguments many times. In this article, we're saying pretty much the same thing BUT hopefully we can convince you to try it this year ??

Here are 5 reasons why you should volunteer this year ??

1- More opportunities than ever

This year, we're bringing you tons of exciting new opportunities! If you wanted to start volunteering with us before, now is the time. Gain an insight into the running of huge cultural events in Leeds? Run and manage your own volunteer project? We link with over 150 local charities to offer you a wide range of options that fit around you and your commitments. We don't mind if you can volunteer on a long term basis or just have a few spare minutes, anyone can take part!

2- We opened our Zero Waste Shop

We just lanched our new Zero Waste Shop! Check out the completely redesigned space and celebrate the start of this new venture we are so excited to share with you! Every year, we throw away 7 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes, the majority of which could have been eaten. We hope to reduce food waste and support Leeds Beckett students who struggle to put enough food on their plate. Find out how you can get involved yourself! If you would like any more information, please contact Lyndon Wallace at l.s.wallace@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

3- It is not too late to apply for the Beckett Award

The Beckett Award is a scheme that will give you recognition for your extracurricular activities, as well as the chance to improve your ability to reflect on the skills you’ve gained from your involvement. The award is great for employability and will help you stand out in future job applications. Make sure you watch the video above to learn everything you need to know about this opportunity! You can also visit our website at https://www.leedsbeckettsu.co.uk/beckettaward

4-  Make your CV stand out

Each volunteering experience teaches you new skills that could be useful in your future working life. It can help you to gain more confidence and it gives employers an insight into your interests on your CV. The job market can be a competitive world and getting involved with us could be that one thing that make you stand out! Our SU is there to make students' lives better and not only at university. We also want to ensure that you have a bright future ??

5- Student Volunteering Week

Student Volunteering Week from 7 February to 13 February. This will be the best time for you to explore our offerings and try something new! Check out our full list of events at https://www.leedsbeckettsu.co.uk/svw.
