Why you should join a Student Community

If you self-identify into any of the Leeds Beckett Students’ Union Student Communities, we’d love for you to join! But why join a Community in the first place?

NewsVoice

University is a great place to connect with new people, embrace a new community and get active and make positive change! From the Disabled Students’ Community to the Global Majority Students’ Community, if you self-identify into any of the Leeds Beckett Students’ Union Student Communities, we’d love for you to join. But why join a community in the first place?

Here are 4 reasons why you should get involved with a Student Community:

It’s an easy way to make friends with people you can relate to.

Sometimes it can be hard to find people who share your same experience, and being able to discover the same kinds of people helps create a sense of mutual respect and understand. By joining a community, you’ll be able to get to know people who share your same values, and with that is an opportunity to make friends. You could even find yourself creating a safe and welcoming space for others who would love to join!

Learn more about yourself and those around you!

Communities not only offer space for you to find and relate to other students, but they also create a sense of openness. Being able to talk through your own worries and listen to others is key to finding stability in yourself. Whether that be through celebrating what makes you stand out in the LGBT+ Students' Community or learning how to juggle responsibilities and fun within the student Parents and Carers Community, finding those to relate to makes life easier.

Access Support

Sometimes uni life can be tough, and it’s hard to find where you feel you belong. Joining a Community is the perfect way to help you feel supported throughout your university experience, and Communities offer support through friendship and understanding. Standing in solidarity with your peers to fight for what matters whilst feeling safe and supported is key to maintain mental health- you should never feel as though you are alone, and that people will not fight for you.

Find loads of resources!

All the Communities at Leeds Becket Students' Union provide valuable resources and guidance throughout the year, helping you manage life and work however possible. This access is important, as you never know when you might need extra help or guidance on how to navigate throughout the term.
