    Purpose: To be part of a team identifying, planning, and providing activities and events that encourage people to get actively involved in their community. We work in a participatory way, encouraging and welcoming people of all ages who live in and around the Burley area to take part. The Community Assistant Volunteer Role would involve you primarily working alongside a Community Leader to support the delivery of groups and workshops for groups of 10 – 25 people. There would also be community events hosted for 25 – 250 people where your support will be required.

    Responsibilities:

    • To follow the processes and procedures of the Project Team under instruction from the Project staff.
    • To actively support in the identifying, advertising and session planning for groups and workshops to be delivered to the community.
    • To support in groups and workshops delivered to the community.
    • To take part in a briefing session before the event to familiarise yourself with the risk assessments, responsibilities, and timings.
    • To work closely with other team members, encouraging others to participate and oversee the safety in the event.
    • Take part in scheduled Volunteer meetings.
    • Attend supervision sessions as agreed with the Project staff.
    • To help set up before the events including furniture set up, materials set out and preparing refreshment, as well as the clear and clean up afterwards. Events could be on site, in doors, outdoors and in partnership with local organisations.

     

    Expectations:

    • Undertake an induction and safeguarding training as agreed with Project staff and to work within Better Leeds Communities procedures as they apply to your role such as health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding and confidentiality.
    • To recognise any inappropriate attitudes and behaviour and know how to challenge / escalate it safely or seek guidance to do so.
    • Give advance notice of sessions that you cannot attend or if you decide to end your period of volunteering.
    • To give feedback on your experience of the project.
    • Actively support and promote the principle of equal opportunities.
    • Seek appropriate support & advice (if in doubt ask).

     

     

    Skills/Knowledge/Attitude:

    • A passion to share skills and knowledge to help develop the community.
    • A willingness to commit to the agreed plans of the group / workshops.
    • Friendly and welcoming with a genuine interest in people.
    • A dedication to develop/strengthen communication skills – including the ability to listen well to others.
    • The ability to be fair and understanding and help make sure everyone is included in activities.
    • Prepared to accept other people as they are, to not make assumptions and be non- judgmental.
    • Ability to learn from your experience and be open to developing yourself as a person.

  • Digital Inclusion Volunteer

    Purpose: To be part of a team that works together to deliver digital skills sessions to the community.  We work in a participatory way, encouraging and welcoming people of all ages who live in and around the Burley area to take part, and open to people across Leeds. The Digital Inclusion Volunteer Role would involve you primarily working alongside the Digital Inclusion Officer to support the delivery of digital drop ins on a weekly basis for groups of 5 – 25 people.  

    These digital drops in are being planned to be run at some point between October to December, depending on staff/volunteer capacity. We are running two drop-in sessions to better understand the needs of our learners. This will be 1.5-hour sessions on the 14th (Thurs)and 15th September (Friday).  

    Responsibilities:  

    • To follow the processes and procedures of the Project Team under instruction from the Project staff. 

    • To actively support in the identifying, advertising and session planning for digital drops in to be delivered to the community. 

    • To take part in training and induction before the drop ins to familiarise yourself with the risk assessments, responsibilities, and timings. 

    • To work closely with other team members, encouraging others to participate and oversee the general safety of learners.  

    • To support learners with their digital skills such as downloading the NHS app, booking a GP appointment, ordering their prescriptions.  

    • Attend supervision sessions as agreed with the Digital Inclusion officer  

    • To help set up before the events including furniture set up, materials set out and preparing refreshments, as well as the clearing and clean up afterwards. Events could be on site, indoors, outdoors and in partnership with local organisations. 

     

    Expectations:  

    • Undertake an induction and safeguarding training as agreed with Project staff and to work within Better Leeds Communities procedures as they apply to your role such as health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding and confidentiality.
