I’m Faran Zulfiqar, a Student Community Organiser at Leeds Beckett Students’ Union, and I’m now in my second year in the role. I’m also a third-year BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences student at Leeds Beckett University.

I chose Leeds Beckett because of its diverse and welcoming community, as well as the opportunities available to students beyond their studies. During my time at LBU, I’ve been fortunate to take on a number of roles across the University and Students’ Union, including Student Community Organiser, Student Ambassador, Global Ambassador, Student Trustee and Welcome Team member. These experiences have allowed me to meet students from different backgrounds, understand their experiences and become actively involved in university life.

I applied to become a Student Community Organiser because I wanted to work directly with students and help turn their experiences and ideas into positive change. I particularly enjoy having conversations with students, identifying issues that matter to them and working collectively to build campaigns and communities around those issues.

In my role, I hope to continue strengthening student voice and helping students feel heard, represented and connected to their university. I’m particularly interested in creating stronger communities and improving students’ experiences both on and off campus.

Outside of university, I’m passionate about boxing and MMA, having trained and competed for several years. I also enjoy travelling, meeting new people and getting involved in community activities.
