Have you ever felt like there were things about life at Leeds Beckett that could be better — more cosy spaces on campus, better shuttle bus timings, less timetabling issues? By applying for a role in this year’s Student Elections, you might be the one to make that change happen!

The Student Elections are a real chance to shape your time at university, to steer decisions that affect hundreds (or thousands) of your peers, and to build communities that matter.

While this is a great change to make a difference on campus, it’s also an incredible opportunity for you to grow and develop in your career!

What roles are up for grabs

There are several positions available and which one’s right for you may depend on your level of study and how much time you want to commit to the role:

  • Undergraduate OfficerThis is a full-time paid position (from July 2026- July 2027) open to all undergraduate students currently studying at Leeds Beckett dedicated to representing undergraduate students.
  • Postgraduate Officer - This is a full-time paid position (from July 2026- July 2027) open to all postgraduate students currently studying at Leeds Beckett dedicated to representing postgraduate students.
  • School Officer roles - These are voluntary part-time roles representing individual schools (e.g. Arts, Business, Health, etc.). They require a small time commitment (around 1 hour/week) and are ideal if you want to be a part of the team and represent the student voice without pausing your studies. These roles are open to all current Leeds Beckett students who will be continuing their studies throughout the 2026/27 academic year.

What you could achieve

Being an elected Officer gives you the opportunity to take the student voice into important spaces and represent others to make life at Leeds Beckett better. In these roles you’ll have the chance to:

  • Represent the student body - gather feedback, listen to concerns, and bring those voices straight to university decision-makers.
  • Help lead on community-organising - work with student communities to campaign for changes, improvements, and initiatives that matter to people like you.
  • Shape the Union’s priorities - influence which campaigns happen, which services get improved, and how the SU supports students — from welfare to academic representation to campus life.

If you’ve ever wished something was different at Beckett - this is one of the few jobs where you truly can make it happen!

What’s in it for you?

Both campaigning for and serving as an SU Officer is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain incredible experience that will help you stand out in the job market! Here’s just a few things you’ll gain from the role:

  • Real-world experience. Chairing meetings, representing students’ voices to senior University staff, coordinating campaigns: this is experience that stands out on CVs and will help you develop important skills like organisation, communication, and leadership.
  • Build your network. You’ll work with staff, fellow students, senior leadership teams in both the University and Students’ Union, and communities from all walks of life at Beckett.
  • Make friends & form community. By working on campaigns and initiatives and representing your peers you’ll meet people, build relationships, and feel more connected to life on campus!
  • Have a say & make change. If there are issues you care about - welfare, sustainability, equality, student voice - you get a platform to push for them and see real results.

Put simply: it’s a chance to improve student life for others and benefit yourself.

How to Apply - It’s Simple!

  • First, you need to book a 121 chat with a member of the LBSU team before 12 December 2025. This meeting is a quick conversation to give you more information about the role and it’s a great chance to ask any questions you may have about the position and Student Elections process!
  • After that - you’ll be given access to the application page, where you’ll need to submit a short manifesto explaining who you are, why you’re running, and what you’d like to achieve if elected.

You don’t need to have any experience in student politics or be the loudest person in the room, you just have to be a motivated student who cares about making students’ lives better!
