The legacy of previous Student Officers

From supporting students to campaign on issues that matter to them to representing student voices in important boards and committees at the University, Student Officers make a big impact right here at Leeds Beckett.

With nominations open now and the Leadership Election on the way, we thought we’d round up some great examples of past officer achievements!

Supported students throughout the pandemic

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Student Officers worked closely with both the University and Students’ Union staff to ensure that LBU students had the support they needed.

Campaigned for gender neutral toilets on campus

Student Officers also work to make the campus a more inclusive and welcoming space for everyone! This included campaigning for gender neutral toilets on campus.

Worked with the University to secure a cost-of-living package to support students

This past year has seen everyone grappling with the cost-of-living crisis and your Student Officers have been working hard to ensure that students have the support they need. They worked with the University and secured a comprehensive cost-of-living package, and they continue to lobby on behalf of students and push for more support where needed.

Created the Global Majority Ambassador programme

Student Officers created the Global Majority Ambassador programme to increase global majority student representation across campus and to identify and challenge areas of western-centred learning.

Secured free sexual health and period products for students from the Students’ Union

Have you spotted free period products and sexual health provisions in the Students’ Union spaces? You have Student Officers to thank! They secured these products for any students who need them for free.

Worked on the refurbishment of the The Hive at City and Headingley campuses

Leeds Beckett Students’ Union spaces should be nice and welcoming environments for everyone, whether you’re grabbing a cup of coffee between lectures, meeting up with friends, or just looking for a new study space. Your Student Officers helped to make sure that’s the case with their work on the refurbishment of both Hive venues at City and Headingley campuses.
