It's been a super busy year for our Officer Team and we're so proud of everything they've achieved for Beckett students. Read on to find out more about the work they've done for you!
It's been a super busy year for our 2024/25 Officer Team! Before we say goodbye, we wanted to take the opportunity to look back on all the great work they've delivered for Leeds Beckett students like you.
Whether they've been leading on important campaigns, meeting with power holders to represent the student voice and push for change, or creating new initiatives across campus, we're so proud of everything they've delivered for you. Here are some of their top achievements from the year:
Dhruv, SU President
- Worked on the launch of the Leeds SU Network, including collecting data and setting up a webpage with Leeds Uni Union, LTSU and Leeds City College
- Worked on the Buses and Housing campaigns. You can find out more about our Housing Campaign wins here!
- Organised Diwali on campus along with INSA for more than 300 students (and VC Phil Cardew attended too!)

Met with NUS president Amira Campbell to discuss the national campaigns and how LBSU can get involved to help make change

Worked upon with MP Alex Sobel (Leeds Central and Headingly) regarding the guarantors work for the NUS national lobby day in October. You can find out more about our work with MP Alex Sobel here!

Attended the Northern Leaders meeting with the CEO of Transport for the North Martin Tugwell, in Manchester for our ongoing Buses Campaign

Took part in lots listening activity on the free LBU shuttle bus to support our Buses Campaign
Harry, Welfare Officer
- Launched a series of events called Swap & Smile, an initiative aimed at helping students save costs by swapping clothes and promoting sustainability
- Met with MP Alex Sobel (Leeds Central and Headingley) and advocated on behalf of students facing challenges with accommodation and UK guarantor requirements
- Met with Amira, the NUS President, and highlighted pressing student concerns, including part-time job opportunities, housing challenges, and mental health support
- Reached out to Leeds City Council to explore ways of providing insights and opportunities for LBU students in the local job market
- Represented Beckett students at MP Bob Blackman’s Business Meet and advocated for sponsorship job opportunities and internships to help bridge the gap between education and employment
- Co-chaired the Employability and Careers Campaign and supported the Housing Campaign by raising the student voice and working alongside university departments
Meghna, Academic Experience Officer
- Delivered Course Rep training sessions, creating a space where students could speak openly about what’s working — and what’s not. Meghna made sure feedback was taken seriously and followed up with staff when needed
- Worked with Phil Cardew to adjust assignment deadlines over Christmas, so students could actually enjoy the break without stressing over submissions
- Helped run a Stress Buster activity to give everyone a break from uni life
- Led our Timetable Campaign, pushing for fairer scheduling and better communication, and a Housing Campaign to raise issues around rent and accommodation support
