Freshers Go Fresh

Saturday 25 March 2023

11am - 2pm

Why the market? It’s a beautiful historic venue with cafes and eateries at one end and food stalls and haberdasheries at the other. There’s lot of life and activity there. There’s more colour, more vibrancy, there’s more events (most Saturdays for example the market hosts fairs).

But more than that there’s a real argument for using markets as a more sustainable source of shopping than supermarkets. The food on sale is local, it’s fresh, is more affordable and it comes without plastic packaging.

The variety on the market beats supermarkets hands down in terms of more exotic food stuffs, you’ll often find ingredients on the market you can’t find anywhere else.

While the food is more affordable than the supermarkets though the quality of the fish, bread, cheese meat and vegetables is often beyond what you can finds anywhere else. You’ll often see award-winning chefs amongst the faces buying food for their restaurants for diners that evening.

The traders are very engaging people, very receptive and very keen to engage with you and again from a sustainability perspective they are local people with local businesses to run, some are entrepreneurial former students from Leeds Becket University.

The food court at the lower end of the market offers cuisines from around the world, so grab a coffee, go shopping and then eat lunch from one of the traders there.

On many of the stalls pictured you’ll see a Freshers Go Fresh logo all these traders have agreed to offer 10% discount on their wares to Leeds Beckett students. All these stalls have been tried and tested and represent the best of the market. We hope to get more on board with this scheme soon and please keep visiting this page for updates about special deals and home delivery scheme’s.
