This activity is aimed at any students or graduates actively looking for, or interested in hearing about, live volunteering opportunities.
We’ll be exploring the work done by various charities in the region, and the opportunities they have for you to get involved. You will hear about a range of voluntary opportunities from working with children and young people, to getting involved in social media content creation! You'll be in small groups with fellow students and rotate around the room so you have chance to speak to every organisation, hear about their roles, and ask any questions you have.
Volunteering is a brilliant way to give back to the community, gain workplace experience alongside uni, and build your network. It will be your chance to hear directly from lots of different charities in one place, and even start an application on the day!
Organisations coming along include:
- Forward Leeds - they offer free confidential alcohol and drug support for people in Leeds. Helping adults, young people and their families.
- Beacon Housing Support (Touchstone) - they are part of a Leeds city-wide initiative that provides supported accommodation for individuals and families with complex needs, including those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Yorkshire Children's Centre - they are a regional charity that supports vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, and their families, within Kirklees and surrounding areas.
- Engage Leeds - they promote inclusion, fairness, dignity and hope and support people to make change for themselves. Their goal is to positively impact both individuals and their wider communities.
- Better Leeds Communities - they strive to improve employability, provide sustained support to families and reduce child poverty in our city’s communities. They do this by offering a range of services citywide including advice, activities, courses, and venue hire.
By the end of the session, you will……
- Have met and spoken with various charities and understand the work they do
- Have an idea about opportunities that might suit you, and know how to apply
- Understand the value of voluntary work and how it can help your professional development

It will be an on campus event and will take place in the Rose Bowl, room 412.
