This interactive training will equip student society and community leaders with the understanding of how to be more inclusive of our diverse student community.
The training covers a general understanding of equality and liberation and how this relates to the student experience, as well as some more in-depth discussion around what it means to be culturally competent and inclusive of students from underrepresented backgrounds, with a focus on Black and Global Majority students’ experiences.
We aim to cover, and open discussions around:
- Key terminology relating to equality and liberation
- Types of, and examples of, oppression faced by students at Leeds Beckett
- What cultural competency is
- Systemic issues faced by Black and Global Majority students
- The differences in outcomes between white students and Black and Global Majority students
- Understanding our own behaviours and why we have them
- What initial steps we might take to tackle racism and oppression more widely.
This session is aimed at Society and Community Leaders, but any student is welcome to join. Please register for a free ticket.
