Meet your Officer Team 2021/22

Monday 08-03-2021 - 16:15

After weeks of preparation and 5 days of busy online campaigning, the dust has settled, and your leaders have been chosen. 1124 students voted in these elections, with a total of 4050 votes!

But before we go on to reveal this year’s successful candidates, we would like to first congratulate everyone who took part in this election. Participating in an election takes a lot of time, dedication and passion. Congratulations!

Without further ado, it’s time to meet your new leaders:

Union Affairs Officer – Pango Simwaka
Academic Experience Officer – Meg Darroch
Activities & Events Officer – Anna Crooks
Welfare & Community Officer – Lucy MacDonald

Your new NUS Conference Delegates for 2021 are Sherry Iqbal, Nadia Patel, Pango Simwaka, Meg Darroch, Anisa Khan and Taylor Jones!

27 students were campaigning this year. Of those candidates:

  • 63% were women,
  • 30% identified as LGBT+,
  • 67% identified as Black, Asian or another minoritised ethnicity,
  • 33% of candidates were international students,
  • 67% were mature students,
  • 44% were in postgrad studies,
  • While 15% of candidates identified as disabled

The Leadership Elections are one of the biggest events in the SU calendar, requiring huge effort from the whole staff team to make them happen. A huge thanks goes to all staff and Officers who took time out of their usual jobs to encourage students to nominate themselves, to vote for their next leaders or to provide support to candidates.

Congratulations to our new 2021/2022 Officer Team!
