What do I have to do to progress to the next level of my course?

If your course has more than one level, you will need to meet the progression criteria before you move to the next level, for example, moving from Level 4 to Level 5 of an honours degree.

The requirements for progression are summarised in the ‘Progression and Award Factsheet for Students’ progression-and-award-factsheet-students.pdf and more detail can be found in Section 4 of the Academic Regulations: Progression and Award ar4_progression_and_award.pdf

Students should also check their Course handbook for any specific requirements linked to their individual course. Course Handbooks - 2024/25 | student information | Leeds Beckett University

Can I fail one module and still progress?

Generally, Yes*, one 20-credit module may be condoned (passed despite failing) if:

  • You meet all other progression requirements – This includes submitting in ALL modules.
  • The failed module is not a required pass or pre-requisite for future modules.

*Important: Check your Course Handbook—some courses (e.g., professional or accredited ones) may have stricter rules.

What happens if I don't submit one of my assessments?

You must submit all assessment components to be eligible for progression. Not submitting even one component will impact on your progression.

What if I don't pass my first sit of a module assessment?
  • You will be offered one reassessment opportunity.
  • Reassessments are capped
  • Only failed components are reassessed.
Will I be allowed to progress and carry over failed modules?

Only in exceptional cases. You may carry up to two modules (40 credits) forward if you:

  • Had confirmed extenuating circumstances that prevented you from completing assessments/reassessments.

It is important that you consult your course handbook and course administrator for your specific course requirements as exceptions might apply (for example, some modules might be pre-requisite which must be passed before progression to the next level is permitted; or there may be specific requirements on some professionally accredited courses that mean you are not permitted to fail one module): Course Handbooks - 2024/25 | student information | Leeds Beckett University
