Rachel Attricki

My name is Rachel, and I am running for the position of Student Union President at Leeds Beckett University. I am a final-year Adult Nursing student and have served as a student representative since my first year. Additionally, I am a BAME and Global Majority Ambassador and the undergraduate student representative on the School of Health Academic Committee. With my experiences, I have gained an understanding of the challenges faced by students and their expectations. I plan to use this knowledge to collaborate with students and create a balanced study-life atmosphere. I am also a strong advocate of sustainability and environmental protection, and I am committed to making our campus more ecologically friendly, inclusive, and equitable for all.

My manifesto focuses on creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through collaboration and advocacy, I aim to make Leeds Beckett University a better place for all students.

To Improve Student Placements.

  • Establish a nursing society at the university.

  • Address the issue of students being assigned to shifts when wards are understaffed, as this can jeopardize safe staffing numbers.

  • Advocate for fair and equitable compensation for students during their placements, especially for those in unpaid placements.

  • Advocate for improvements to the nursing program, including placements and communication with placement areas.

Strategies to Address the Difficulties Faced by International Students:

  • Advocate for more affordable and accessible accommodation options for international students.

  • Promote mental health awareness and provide resources for international students to cope with academic and personal stress.

  • Create a cultural exchange program to promote understanding and appreciation of different cultures.

Prioritizing Inclusivity

  • Fostering a sense of community and inclusivity among diverse student groups

  • Addressing any instances of discrimination or marginalization in the student community

  • Providing training and education on diversity and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff.

Sustainability and the Environment:

  • Use educational programs and activities to promote awareness about the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation.

  • Work towards making the campus more ecologically friendly, inclusive, and equitable for all.

Accountability:

  • I will be accountable to the students at Leeds Beckett University. I will regularly report on the progress of my programs and policies and solicit feedback to ensure that they meet the needs of our community.

Regular Communication:

  • I will maintain open communication with students, faculty, and staff. I will use social media, email, and in-person meetings to ensure that everyone is aware of the programs and policies that I am implementing.

In a nutshell, I am running for this position to bridge the gap between the student community and the school's leadership, promoting collaborative and inclusive decision-making to create a conducive ecosystem for future leaders. I have experience representing students, dedication to diversity and inclusion, and I am aware of the difficulties students face. I will work tirelessly to promote students' interests and make everyone on campus feel heard and supported.
