Gurtej Singh Sandhu

I'm Gurtej Singh Sandhu a 1st year Msc Entrepreneurship and Business Development student. I will try to keep this concise as I’m sure there have been lots of manifestos to read and I feel my key points are crucial to my campaigns success. I have been an educator (Assistant Professor for 10+years) at a university in India, where certain duties were assigned to me, and It was my primary responsibility and utmost priority, so the learners and upcoming students can learn best from what is being offered by their course and mentors.

I will strive to:

1. IMPROVE THE CURRICULUM

  • Push for a compulsory Anti-racism Workshop at the start of the year.
  • Campaign for the anonymising of marking, and continue the process of investigation of student drop-outs to find and understand the main reason for this.
  • Support and demand institutional protection for students facing racial discrimination.
  • Discussing if best 2 out the total 3 assignment's can be used, so as the course can get more flexibility

2. ENSURE TRANSPARENCY & AVAILABILITY

  • Provide a weekly office hour for students to come direct walk-in to share their questions & issues with us.
  • Make minutes of meetings with other LBU SU societies.
  • Organise teach-ins to support other forms of alternative education.
  • Organise closely with Course reps for them to report back on feedback and general issues.
  • Check with timely uploading of marks and grades of students within timelines as being updated on the LBU My Beckett.

3. IMPROVE LEARNING ATMOSPHERE

  • Making library student friendly and putting up posters for new students helping them to understand the process of getting the books issued and how they can get print-outs in library from their own devices.
  • Facilitate setting up of a online platform where students themselves can find the location of reading material they want, so they can easily find and locate in the library.
  • Facilitate the creation of note-sharing clouds to promote the collectivisation of learning.
  • Initiate a platform that records existing reading groups in order to broaden their access.
  • Promote the use of all-class essay feedback among academic staff in order for students to be able to learn from others’ learning paths in assignments.
  • Demand departments to provide optional print booklets of required readingsStudents should not bear the budget burden of their learning preferences.

4. PREVENT THE COMMERCIALISATION OF OUR EDUCATION

  • Free Re-evaluation of an Assessment if the educator was unable to mark the grades within a time-line and thus awarding the students average marks. Instead of Re-sit, the student can request for a Re-Evaluation if he/she has scored more than 60% in second Assessment of the same module.
  • Oppose any fee increase and mobilise the Union if a potential rise comes.

I have presented research paper and attended conferences during my 10+ years of academic experience as an Assistant Professor.
