About Us

Providing befriending support to children looked after and care experienced young adults. We are a volunteering service which is managed and provided by Leeds City Council.

Do you have interests which you would like to share with young people? Do you like to have fun? Could you be a positive role model for a vulnerable child?

Independent Visitors befriend children living in care and young adults who have recently left care, meeting them once a month to participate in a fun activity together. Independent Visitors provide a positive, stable, consistent adult for children who often have little or no contact with people who are not professionals.

No formal qualifications are required for the role as all required training will be provided. Applicants just need to have a genuine interest in spending time with children and young people. Volunteering usually takes place at weekends and all Independent Visitors are required to give a minimum of 2 years commitment to the role. Applicants must be over the age of 18. All young people accessing the scheme are particularly vulnerable, therefore full safer recruitment practices are followed including the need for 2 references and a full, enhanced DBS check.

This role is an in-person volunteering activity which cannot be undertaken remotely.
