Cloth Cat Leeds is a charity based in inner-city Leeds that uses music training to help local people learn new skills.

Vision: For all people in Leeds and beyond to find a sense of purpose and belonging, and gain more control over their own lives. Mission: Cloth Cat harnesses the power of music to create community, build potential and transform people’s mental health and well-being. Our projects include:

  1. Get Your Act Together. A National Lottery funded project providing free, formal, but structured, practical and fun courses in music based subjects with groups of young people learning together.
  2. Man About Town: reduces social isolation for men who are at risk of suicide to engage them back in to the wider community through a series of creative, practical and fun music based sessions.
  3. Repair & Recycle brings together and supports a community of unemployed adults who have mental health issues from disadvantaged communities in Leeds. Members learn to repair, recycle and sell musical equipment, instruments and vinyl. The project reduces carbon emissions by diverting items destined for landfill, and social isolation.
  4. Our open mic night has been running for over 25 years in Leeds and built a wonderful community of new and established performers in a friendly and supportive environment.
  5. We offer a range of opportunities for volunteering from helping with IT and social media to helping out at gigs or supporting learning.
  6. We offer adult education classes at different times according to demand, including learning the ukulele, guitar, sound engineering or electronic music production.
