Why join a society?

Leeds Beckett Students' Union has many societies that you can join! Societies are student-led groups based around shared hobbies where you can meet others who enjoy similar interests. You can find a full list of our active societies here.

You might be asking yourself, why should I join a society this year? Read on and we will tell what you could gain from joining a student group!

Remember if there isn’t a society for you, why not head over to the Start a new society page and start a new one?

Why Join a Society?

Make New Friends

Joining a society is one of the best ways to make new friends who are like-minded and, as cliché as it sounds, they could be a friend for life.

Get Connected

Networking is a great way to kick start your future career. Joining a society can be great a way to meet people who can help you with your development and provide opportunities which go beyond those of the lecture theatre and university.

Develop Future Career Skills

Societies give you the opportunity to learn and develop skills from teamwork to events planning to budget management to leadership as well as many other transferrable skills. These skills can give you an extra edge when looking for future career opportunities.

Relax!

Sometimes university life can be hard and you just need a break. Joining a society can give you the perfect way to relax and chat to others. Maybe you want to talk through your problem or just forget about it all, but whatever you decide the society will be there for you.

Try Something New

What better time than coming to university than to try something new? By joining a society, not only can you indulge in activities you enjoy, but you can also try something you may never have tried before!

Gain Confidence

Joining a society can help you develop interpersonal skills with people from a wide range of backgrounds and improve your confidence with other people.
