Flourishing Families Leeds

Flourishing Families Leeds combats food poverty and poor nutrition through family cookery clubs, supports family literacy through our Story Tellers Clubs, and helps tackle the challenges faced by primary school-aged children living in deprivation through activity-based mentoring.

Our team works in areas of Leeds ranked amongst the most deprived 1-10% across the country. In our city, nearly 200,000 people live in these communities, with over 40% of children living below the poverty line.

Those are big numbers, but what does that look like in reality? It means children are going to school hungry, and their families don’t know where to turn or who to trust for help. Children and young people have to cope with the challenges of low confidence and poor self-esteem and can often find it hard to do well at school. It’s so easy for families to get caught in a cycle of intergenerational poverty, and that can make it feel like there’s no hope for change. But we believe that by working together with local families, we can change the story.

We work alongside the community to equip families with the skills they need to move forward. Our projects focus on healthy eating, literacy, language and mentoring. We’re interested in getting to know real people, hearing their stories, and providing practical support where it’s needed.
