Shop Zero provides in-house volunteering opportunities based on campus for you to get involved in. Providing students access to affordable food and access to a refill station for dried food items.

If you are looking for an opportunity you get involved in from the comfort of your own Campus, get in touch to find out more or visit our shops during their opening times on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 - 2pm.

  • Eco Soup - Kitchen Support/Chef

    Your main responsibilities will be preparing ingredients, cooking soup, and serving it to customers. This role is perfect for anyone...

    1) Sourcing Ingredients – Wonky or Frozen preferred
    2) Opening Eco Soup kitchen and preparing ingredients ready for service
    3) Cooking soup before the shop opens to customers at 12
    4) Ensure the kitchen is clean, tidy and well stocked
    5) Keeping check of consumables and cleaning products, informing the project supervisor or SU staff of anything that needs restocking.

    We are looking for confident and reliable student volunteers to support our Shop Zero projects. These include our Eco Soup kitchen and Zero Waste store based at City Campus on Thursdays between 11 - 2 pm. 

    If you are interested in boosting your CV, meeting like-minded people, need volunteering experience for your course or simply want to get out of the house to support a worthwhile cause, we have a position that is perfect for you.

    Training will be provided by the activities team to ensure you are ready for the role and you will be supervised by a project leader.

    Please note, this position has a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week during term time.

    Have you ever wanted your own allotment and grow your own food? 

    LBSU has its own allotment space based on Woodhouse Moore and we are looking for leaders to take ownership of the space. This will include running sessions from the allotment, building up awareness of the space through social media, and being a point of call for students who want to get involved. You will be supported by a member of the activities team to help you get started and help plan sessions or activities.

    This will be a physical outdoor role so please bear that in mind when applying.

    This role is ideal for anyone that wants a flexible volunteering opportunity throughout the academic year. You will gain a wealth of experience from this opportunity while promoting waste reduction and a reduction in fast fashion. You will be required to work independently but there will be a member of the activities that will train you and support you before the stall opens.

    Your main role will be planning and delivering events in collaboration with the Shop Zero project supervisors and volunteers. They should link with sustainability, waste reduction, or cooking but all ideas will be considered. You will also be responsible for the Christmas and end-of-year celebrations for our volunteers.

    You will be supported by a member of the activities team to help you deliver your plan and deliver your event ideas.
