Context and purpose of the role

The role involves volunteering in both an office and community setting to support young people with learning disabilities to create and edit films about our services that would then be used as marketing tools. We would require someone who would be a regular volunteer but could be flexible in terms of hours and days, depending on the upcoming projects.  

Location: The volunteer will be based in various settings throughout Leeds, including People Matters office.

Supervised by: Volunteer Coordinator  

We hope that the volunteer will:

  1. Be able to use filming equipment to take video in a variety of settings
  2. Be capable of editing films to a good standard
  3. Follow instructions from staff
  4. Attend occasional volunteer meetings
  5. Attend training to develop skills
  6. Inform relevant staff of any upcoming absences
  7. Work with staff to support young people to take part in filming, develop their skills and encourage them to be as independent as possible
  8. Interact with volunteers and support them 1-1 with staff supervision
  9. Build and use their understanding and confidence of what challenges people with learning and other disabilities might face, and their understanding of mental health problems to enable effective support

The role requires volunteers to provide two references.

Expenses will be reimbursed, training will be provided and the volunteer will work alongside and receive regular supervision from the Volunteer Coordinator.
