We have a diverse community of students and staff here in Leeds Beckett. Unfortunately there is no accessible faith spaces available to all students. The faith spaces up in Headingley are not accessible to wheelchair users, the washing facilities in Headingley are not proper for use and the spaces are hard to find since there are on the edge of campus. The spaces are also too small and not well maintained.
Regarding the spaces in City Campus, the spaces are not properly accessible to wheelchair access and the spaces are not appropriately inclusive to all. The faith spaces are also not accessible for student and staff on campus who are using the library after 7 pm. The Library have provided some rooms for use during night times, however the spaces are not adequately up to purpose. I would petition for the University to provide more and better faith spaces without necessarily reducing the spaces that are already available right now.
This idea was approved for action at the Equality & Diversity Forum on Wednesday 13 October 2019 and the Students' Union will now work with students to try and make this happen. Updates on progress towards achieving this idea will be posted here.
