Every year, 4 full time officers are elected by Leeds Beckett University students and work to lead Leeds Beckett Students' Union into the next academic year. Their mission is to make Students’ lives better and to ensure that your voice is heard by the university’s leadership. The members of the 2021-2022 Officer Team are (in order):
- Lucy MacDonald - Welfare & Community Officer
- Anna Crooks - Events & Activities Officer
- Meg Darroch - Academic Experience Officer
- Pango Simwaka - Union Affairs Officer
They want to introduce themselves and say a few words to you!
Lucy: Hi everyone, I am Lucy and I’m so excited to be your new Welfare and Community Officer. I am a Sociology graduate from our wonderful Social Science School and this year my main focus is to improve sexual well-being across campus. I loved my time at uni as a Beckett student and want all students to have an amazing time while studying here. Fun fact about me is that I can dance in 5 different genres!
Anna: Hello Leeds Beckett! I'm Anna your Activities and Events Officer. It's my job to look after all your extra circular activities, like societies and volunteering. I studied International Relations at Beckett and got involved in lots of different sides of uni life, from running a sports team to volunteering and working behind the SU bar. I graduated during the pandemic so I understand how challenging the past few years have been for all of us. However, I'm here to ensure that you get the most out of your university experience this year. My aim is to tackle student loneliness, pritotirse your mental health and do all I can to ensure your social life thrives.
Megan: Hi, I am Meg your Academic Experience Officer for 2021-22, I am so excited to represent you this year but first let me tell you a bit about myself, I have just graduated from Leeds Business School studying Business and Management (one of the biggest courses in the university!) and now I am here representing you on your academic and course based interests. When I am not working you can catch me diving into a good book or playing animal crossing.
Pango: Hey guys! Thank you so much for electing me as your Union Affairs Officer! I’m very proud to be a Leeds Beckett International Relations and Global Development graduate. I gained a lot of leadership experience when I was the African Caribbean Society President and while representing you as the Leeds Beckett Student Union BAME Rep. I have also loved my experience as a Student Trustee. I’ve always had a passion for building communities, grassroots movements and Higher Education. With all that has been happening this year my plan is to make sure that students are supported adequately while at university. I will help create an accessible, representative and diverse Students' Union.
The Officer Team is really excited to share their objectives and projects with you as the new academic year starts this week! Keep your eyes on their Facebook page for updates!
