When can I find out the results?
The results event is yet to be announced but we will keep you updated here. If you cannot attend, it will be streamed live on Facebook and the results will be posted across our social media channels @leedsbeckettsu.

Can I undertake these roles alongside my degree?
Full-time Officer roles require you to either have finished your studies or for you to take a year out. If you do decide to take a year out, the University is generally supportive but it's always best to speak to your Course Director before you submit your nomination.
Any student can stand to be an NUS Conference Delegate and you will attend the conference (online) in March 2021.

I am an International Student... can I run for a full-time role too?
Yes, absolutely! All current Leeds Beckett students are eligible to stand for a full-time Officer role either at the end of your studies or by taking a year out. More information about this can be found at here. Leeds Beckett University's Student Immigration Advice & Compliance Team can also support you through the process - just drop them an email at siac@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Do I get paid?
Full-time Officer roles are paid around £18,000 for the year.
NUS Conference Delegate roles are voluntary.

What are the hours of work?
For full-time Officer roles, it is generally Monday to Friday, 9-5, with the requirement to work occasional weekends and evenings at busy periods and key events. You will also get some time off at Christmas and 25 days holiday to be used across the year.
NUS Conference Delegates will attend a 2-day conference online in March 2021.

Why can't I stand for a Student Community or School Rep position?
Student Community Representative roles will be elected in Term 3 of this year so keep an eye out for publicity about this nearer the time.
School Representative roles will come to an end in June 2021, but we have exciting plans for a similar role from next year so keep an eye out for more information.

What help and support will I get during the elections?
There is a team of SU staff on hand to support you right through the election process, from advice and support on your manifesto and campaign right through to dealing with any questions or concerns you might have.

I’ve never been involved with the SU before, can I still run?
Absolutely – it is never too late to start your involvement with the SU, and you will be given full training and induction to your role. The only requirement is that you are a current Leeds Beckett student.

Do I need to be politically motivated? Is the job political?
There is a political element to all of the roles, but prior political knowhow and involvement is not a requirement. All that really matters is that you are passionate about representing students and working to make students’ lives better.

If I get elected, who will be my boss?
Full-time Officers do not have a ‘boss’ in the same way that staff members do, but the Union Affairs Officer does have responsibility for leading the Officer team. You are also held accountable by students throughout the year. Essentially, students are your boss! NUS Conference Delegates are also accountable to students for the decisions they make at conference.

Will I get help to finance my campaign?
Yes – the SU will provide you with a sufficient allowance to resource your campaign.

Do I need to have lots of friends and be really popular to win an election?
No - students will cast votes based on many different factors and there are many different ways of campaigning your manifesto - with hard work, self-belief in your ideas and persistence you’ll reach lots of students.

What if I get elected and then find the role isn’t for me?
Don’t worry – we understand that from time to time, other commitments may take priority, or that the role just wasn’t what you though it would be. The SU will support and advise you as much as we can if you have any issues, but if at the end of the day you do not want to continue, it’s not a problem.
