Do you want to make your CV shine and to help yourself stand out from the job market?
Do you want to give back to the community and use some of your free time helping a good cause?
Do you want to pet animals, go vintage shopping and help children light up Hyde Park?
Then Student Volunteering Week is here for you!

I’m Nina and I’m your Volunteering Rep. I’m here to tell you all about the exciting line up we have for Student Volunteering Week this year and about some of the benefits of getting involved. There is something for all interests and all levels of commitment, but if you’re not sure where to start or what kind of opportunities are right for you, why not have a go at the handy volunteer quiz

Now that you have an idea what’s right for you, let’s take a look at some of the opportunities on offer. If you’re feeling thrifty, the Vintage Fair is being hosted by the Thrift Shop at Headingley Campus. For the environmentally conscious, Campus Earth day is being hosted at the Gateway covering a wide range of Earthly issues, while Plogging In The Park will give you a chance to put a green spin on your workout. If you’re looking for a challenge, a Night on the Acre is back for another year, whether you want to camp out or just donate to a good cause. There’s even a chance to have a chat about creating your own volunteering initiative if there’s something you believe in and which you don’t feel is covered.

Volunteering has so many benefits; not only is it a great way to give something back to the local community and to do something good but it’s also something that looks great on your CV. Employers love students who have done some volunteering and it can help you develop new and exciting skills you might not get the chance to otherwise. Student Volunteering Week is also a great chance to get a few hours in if your course requires you!
Plus, if you’re in your third year don’t forget there’s still time to apply for the Beckett Award too. The award recognises all your extracurricular activities both in and out of uni.

Student Volunteering Week is kicking off on Monday 11 - 17 Feb, however there are loads more opportunities on the SU website if you can’t get involved this week or if you’d like to carry on volunteering after. For the full schedule, check out the link here.
