It’s been an exciting and incredibly busy first term for Student Led Volunteering Projects at Leeds Beckett SU. We’ve supportive 14 active projects ranging from community football tournaments to collections for refugees, and vulnerable people. It’s really easy to start the process, all you need is an idea - which is the part where many people get stuck when unsupported!
“I heard about a Leadership training course provided by the SU and booked myself on it. We had to come up with an idea and this was something I came up with there and then, which has just developed.” - Student Leader
We help to turn ideas into reality by helping with contacts, planning and training. We can even help you to apply for funding.
“I sat with one of the SU Co-ordinators (Ryan) who asked me lots of questions to get the project moving. They confirmed budgeting costs and I did as much research as I could to start the process.” - Student Leader
We run a drop in service every Tuesday where any Leeds Beckett student can come in to discuss the first steps, or email Ryan, the Student Led Volunteer Coordinator directly to make an appointment any day of the week. No experience is needed, as this service is designed to give anyone the knowledge and confidence to achieve their goals.
“I would recommend it to other students. You gain valuable skills and experience which you can apply in life. Such as time management, people skills and communication skills. As well this is great to have on your CV! At the same time, I sensed a feeling of satisfaction knowing I could help others in some way.” - Student Leader
You can also submit a project idea here.
Why not take the first steps today and make an appointment. You can come and see us during our drop in times on Tuesday 10am-4pm, City campus. To meet on other days or at Headingley campus email our Volunteer Coordinator for Student Led Projects, Ryan, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
