As another academic year draws to a close, it’s time to say a few goodbyes to some aspects of University life. Goodbye to lectures, goodbye to student digs and last but by no means least a goodbye to our 2017/18 Exec Team.
While some of these goodbyes are only temporary, others are unfortunately not. It is with a heavy heart that we will be bidding a final farewell to two members of our Exec Team.
But like a nice bar of chocolate or a good night out, all good things must come to end and after two years, the time has come for our SU President and our VP Welfare & Community, Meg and Kelly-Anne, to fly the LBSU nest. Before they go, here’s a snapshot of some the amazing things that they’ve done during their time at the SU.
Meg Robinson began her first year on our Exec Team as our VP Education before going on to become our SU President (Yay Meg!). During her two terms at the SU, Meg has driven forward a number of positive changes for students, including the overhaul of Library fines, the elimination of 9am exams, the provision of free sexual health and sanitary products for all students, the increased use of lecture capture, the introduction of more plug sockets around campus as well as driven the update of our LBSU spaces and so much more! Good luck Meg in your new job at Leeds Beckett University (See she’s not going far!)
After an amazing two years in office as our acting VP Welfare and Community, Kelly-anne Watson, is headed to new pastures at Unipol. While in office Kelly-anne has spearheaded a number of successful campaigns across campus. Some of her most notable campaigns include the Zero Tolerance campaign, which aims to create a culture on campus where sexual harassment and violence is not tolerated and the Stress Less campaign, an initiative that helps students to reduce their stress around exams. She has also tirelessly lobbyied the university to secure the installation of Lights in Becketts Park.
Meg and Kelly-anne’s presence will undoubtedly be missed and we wish them all the best in their futures. We will be forever grateful for the time and passion they’ve put into making our students’ lives better. Though we are sad to see such valuable members of our team go, we are happy to welcome Charlie Hind and Jess Carrier as our new VP Education and VP Welfare and Community. We also look forward to our returning Execs, VP Equality & Diversity: Ro Sewell, VP Activities: Aidan Thatcher and our new SU President Jack Harrison.
