Hi, I am Sonia Gajnani, a physiotherapist by profession with work experience in India and currently studying MSc Public Health & Health Promotion and a Global Ambassador for the university.  I am super excited to be running for the post of NUS Liberation conference rep (women students). Being a female and a medical student I have goof knowledge about the female face. Being an NUS representative for female students I want to work to create an atmosphere with equal opportunities for female students in comparison to their male counterparts.

I vision to propose creche (day care) facilities for mothers studying at the university to support their study. On the other hand, create work opportunities for other students by managing the day care. Together we can lift each other’s crown. I request your support for change.

Gender Equity Advocacy: Stand up for the rights and interests of students who identify as female by supporting laws and programs that advance gender parity, deal with discrimination based on gender, and stop violence against women on campuses.

Empowerment and Support: Provide materials, networks of allies, and advocacy services that are specific to the requirements and difficulties that students who identify as females encounter. Enable people to move confidently and resiliently across scholastic, personal, and professional environments.

Education and knowledge: Plan seminars, workshops, and campaigns to dispel myths, encourage discussion on subjects like body positivity, reproductive rights, and gender identity/expression, and to increase public knowledge of gender-based issues.

Collaborative Partnerships: To strengthen our joint efforts in promoting gender equality and developing a more welcoming campus culture, form alliances with student organizations, academic departments, and outside stakeholders.

  1. Policy Advocacy: Lobby university administration and governing bodies to adopt gender-inclusive policies and practices, such as gender-neutral facilities, comprehensive sexual assault prevention and response protocols, and inclusive curriculum development.
  2. Support Services: Expand access to support services tailored to the needs of female-identifying students, including counseling and mental health resources, reproductive health services, and resources for survivors of gender-based violence.
  3. Student Engagement: Facilitate open forums, focus groups, and feedback mechanisms to solicit input from female-identifying students on their experiences, concerns, and priorities. Use this feedback to inform advocacy efforts and shape programming.
  4. Visibility and Representation: Amplify the voices and experiences of female-identifying individuals through storytelling initiatives, guest speaker series, and platforms for creative expression. Foster a sense of community and solidarity among women on campus.
