Gigi Meyer

Hi- I’m Gigi, a third-year Music Industries Management student based in the Leeds School of Arts. I’ve previously served as the school’s Student Academic Representative Assistant, and as one of the LBSU’s community leaders (2022-23). This year, I’ve been working with the NUS as one of their chairperson of their annual liberation conference- a group of student activists fighting for a better university experience for International, Disabled and LGBTQ+ students following my election to their committee board. I’d love to attend the national conference, and utilise my tried and tested set of skills and policies honed through my experience at the liberation conference, to better the overall university experience of our vast student community, extending my efforts to all studying at Leeds Beckett.

Should you consider voting for me, I pledge to:

1) Bring attention to discrepancies between Universities' student bursary funding, and pushing for a national rate and allowance to be set- this would be in accordance with the current cost of living, and take into account hidden fees accumulated by students when studying courses with equipment and material expenses

2) Enquire about potential solutions for local public transportation failures, and see what support is available from other institutions to perhaps implement at Leeds Beckett

3) Push the NUS to act through Universities to prevent their partnered student accommodation providers from continuing to increase rent, and taking action against those providers who are doing so based on their majority student  population; against landlords that extort all students under the belief that both international and home students can afford their ever increasing, ridiculous fees that they assume the average student loan can cover easily

Thank you for taking your time to read through my manifesto for the 2024 LBSU Student Elections- keep an eye out for me during Campaign Week and come say hello if you’d like any more information- I look forward to meeting this year’s bright and brilliant Student Community!!
