Hello folks of LBU,

My name is Aditi and before you get to reading my manifesto, I would like to thank you for taking the time out to read this piece and further cast your vote.

Who’s Aditi?

A fellow student, a believer of getting things done, a friend to many and an advocate for righteousness, is how I would put myself. Additionally, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration and on my last leg of finishing my consultancy project. In my current capacity, I serve as a Course Rep for MBA, the President for Leeds Business Society, a Global Ambassador, volunteer at various university projects and your ex National Union of Student Delegate.

What am I lobbying for?

I’m passionate about creating an education system that works for everyone and puts students first. Having been in the university for over a year and heard from fellow students, most of us feel that our wellbeing is put secondary. I have mentioned below 3 issues that majority of the students face all while being in debt for pursuing an education.

Assessment for students development

Student Problem - Diverse learner needs, financial barriers, stress and inadequate feedback from the professors

Solution – Having Tailored assessments to suit diverse learner needs, establishing safety nets to overcome financial barriers, particularly for international students with visa restrictions, implementing a coordinated structure, eliminating bunched deadlines and allowing breaks for student well-being during holidays and lastly Introducing a university-wide Feedback Framework for detailed, specific, and timely feedback on assignments to support student development.

Timetable

Student Problem - The classes are spread across 4-5 days making it difficult for student to travel to university (given the cost-of-living crises) and work part time (international students can work only up to 20 hours).

University Problem - Low attendance from students and dropouts.

Solution – To put together a timetable that works both for the students and the university. Collate the classes in 2-3 days which gives the opportunity for students to work outside the university and attend all the classes. Isn’t this a win-win for both?

Apart from these primary issues, if I am elected as your officer I would like to implement the below ideas over the course of the coming year.

1. Increased student representation in Student Union and the University projects.

2. Skill Development workshops for students to enhance soft skills.

3. More career fairs, CV workshops, Student-led projects.

4. Display of student academic talent through Debates, workshops, competitions in all schools.

5. Transitioning workshops for international students that will help them get accustomed to the UK education system.

To conclude, I would say it is time to make our learning experience more seamless, more inclusive, a little less stressful and more enjoyable. We are here to upgrade our careers and not downgrade our mental health. I will count on your vote to help me be your voice and represent your interests to create change on all relevant education issues.
