It is a great honour to vie for the position of Welfare Officer at this prestigious institution, Leeds Beckett University. It’s been a few months in LBU, and it already feels like home, thanks to the perfect organization from the very first day of induction till now.

I cannot but commend the relentless effort of the present officials, how they’ve been open and receptive to helping new students. It’s really inspiring. I would love to ride on this wing as well and add more perspective to how best we can take care of people coming into this great institution of ours as well as students who are already here.

As an international student, I understand what people go through both as new and stay students. I belong to a group of new students that came in 2023, and I was a part of the clusters that proffered solutions to some of the predominant challenges that we face such as accommodation and securing a part time job. I recommended people for jobs that many got and still recommending people till date. I also shared opportunities for accommodation as well. All of which I am happy to do and more.

This was easy for me to do as I have had many leadership experiences in time past. I was the class representative when I was in secondary school for 3 years. In the university, I led a group of 500 students fellowship, where I served as the secretary and president in the space of two years. Coordinating the affairs of students that belong to the fellowship and ensuring their safety on campus is guaranteed. I succeed in these roles and this experiences made it easy for me to always fit into places of service everywhere I go.

If I get the opportunity to lead the welfare office of the LBU, I will focus on taking holistic measures on how to help students cope with the metal stress that comes with transitioning into a new environment, settling in, and perfectly combining all these with the demanding academics.

I will ensure we have more visible support that my colleagues and fellow students can harness to help them get by in school as they study.

As a Welfare Officer, I will, with the help of the other comrades, ensure inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. I will listen to my fellow students and be just one of them, I will legislate on their behalf what will be of great benefit to them and serve the purpose for which we’ve all come here, which is to attain good academics standards in our respective chosen fields.

with cooperation from the school officials and the authorities governing the affairs of Leeds in general. I believe that we will be able to serve my fellow students and ensure that they have seamless experience in our great institution and the city at large.
