Augustine Ekpenisi

Hi, I am Augustine Ekpenisi, a post graduate student of Public Health - Health Promotion, Leeds Beckett University and I am ready to be your next welfare officer. In previous years, I have worked in Supervisory and Human Resources roles which have equipped me with the skills neccessary to efectively act in the best interests of my fellow students. As a candidate for the position of Welfare officer, I'm devoted to putting every Leeds Becketts University student's wellbeing and comfort first. My manifesto outlines a four approach plan for meeting the many requirements of my office in creating a supporting and inclusive campus environment.

Student Support and Advocacy: For students seeking support, guidance, or assistance with personal, academic, or health-related issues, the team and I are going to provide support to these students. Challenges such as mental health concerns, financial difficulties, housing issues, or discrimination will be addressed and appropriate solutions will be given. We will advocate on behalf of students' welfare interests and present students' concerns to university administration and external stakeholders, while advocating for policies, services, and resources that promote students well-being, and equity.

Health and Wellness: As a student of public health-health promotion, I completely understand the significance of student health promotion, and together with other SU executives and university colleagues, we aim to revitalize and coordinate effective health promotion initiatives such as workshops and campaigns on mental health awareness, sexual health, substance abuse prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices aimed at fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment.

Safety: I would liaise with other SU executives and collaborate with stakeholders including the University campus security services, police, and city council to address safety concerns. This is to ensure that Leeds Beckett students are safe both at campus and in their various local communities.

Building a strong and inclusive community: I will create a welcoming and supportive environment where all students feel valued and respected, regardless of their background, identity, or abilities.

I am committed to fostering a campus atmosphere where each student feels respected, encouraged, and equipped to succeed in my role as your welfare officer. I will put forth endless effort to answer the various needs of our student population and promote the wellbeing of every individual via cooperation, advocacy, and creativity. Let's work together to create a more inclusive, joyful, and healthy campus community.
