Thu Thu Aung

Hello, fellow students of Leeds Beckett University!

This is Thu Thu.I come from Myanmar (Burma). Some of my classmates know me as “Jenny” and I am a post graduate student of International Marketing. I am running for the position of Academic Experience Officer in the student union because I believe that every student deserves a high-quality education that meets their needs and expectations.

If you elect me, I will …….

1. Reduce tight deadlines.

Have you ever wished that your deadlines for different modules were not on the same day? Now is the time to make it come true. I will negotiate with the academic staff members of different modules to set the deadlines differently, NOT on the same day, NOT on weekends, and most importantly NOT one day after the HOLIDAYS! Hopefully, it will have a positive impact on our grades and mental health as well.

2. Improve Timetabling.

Many of us commute to university from outside of Leeds and we cannot simply attend in-person lectures every single day without spending a fortune on transportation. What do we need then? A more structured timetable avoiding the periods scattering all over the week, of course. I will try to request timetabling team to plan the classes in the least possible number of days so that you do not need to come into the university just for one period a day.

3. Increase assignment support.

Have you ever received the assignment support by the library team in one of your seminars/ classes? I have and as an international student, I personally find it really useful, especially with the referencing and writing essays. I will arrange seminar-embedded assignment support on every single module where possible so that you will be offered tailored assignment support to different marking criteria and have both options of booking study skills session at the library or right in the seminars.

4. Introduce a designated space for individuals with childcare responsibilities.

Are you taking care of children while studying? Would you like to have some peace and quiet while changing the diapers or feeding them? Well, I would like to team up with the welfare officer to set up a dedicated room for you to have a rest in between lectures with the supplies of diapers, baby chairs or bouncers, story books and a play area for the children as well. I will make sure to help your academic journey to achieve your desired degree go as smooth as possible as a caregiver, equally as every single one of your classmates.

Sounds good? Then, it’s time to take actions to achieve our goals together. If you want a good listener for your concerns about studies and a promise-keeping friend in the student union officer team, you know what to do now. Vote for me – THU THU AUNG for the Academic Experience Officer role!
