Henry Jones

Hello all!

I'm Henry, and I am applying for the Activities and Events Officer role for the upcoming academic year.

I'm currently a third and final-year Sport Science student at Beckett, looking for a new and stimulating challenge once I graduate.

I have worked in the SU bar since my first year, serving many students their Wednesday evening beverages! Working at the SU has led me to understand what is excellent about our hive alongside the opportunities there are to make it even better.

I’m a very approachable and enthusiastic individual who always sees the positive in every person and situation, assets I believe will help me make the most of this exciting opportunity. I also have four years of experience working behind the scenes at The University of Sheffield, providing me with a wide range of knowledge and skills that can be used here in Leeds.

If I were lucky enough to be elected for this role, one of my main goals for the year would be to utilise the space where our Headingley Hive once was, showcasing our student’s musical talents alongside another social space for all.

The Headingley campus would benefit from a new social area, especially for the many who live in Carnegie Village.

Within my third year, I have been on the committee for the largest sports group Beckett has to offer, providing me with critical social and leadership skills essential for a role like this. I would strive to engage with all the societies within our university and work alongside them throughout the year to organise activities and events for every student to get involved with.

Leeds is exceptionally diverse as a city, making it such an incredible place. I want to open as many doors as possible of opportunity for our students to learn and use new skills whilst providing experiences they won't forget. I would love to host events for both international and local students, an opportunity I believe hasn’t been made the most of.

Adding to this, our SU provides an outstanding, inclusive and diverse space for all our students, something I would endeavour to keep at the forefront of my role whilst working with the officers and the SU team.

Voting for me takes us all one step closer to improved social spaces, increased events for every student, and, generally, a better university life. I am the best person for this role as I understand what students need outside of their lectures. The student voice can only be heard and impact the changes and improvements we need with the right person at the front.

My university experience at Leeds Beckett has been so positive, and I would commit to all students and staff feeling the same way. I very much appreciate you reading my election statement. If I earn your vote, you will not regret it.

Thank you very much. From your fellow student,

Henry.
