Hey Colleagues,

I am Sheeba Parveen (She/Her), and I’m running for the position of Academic Experience Officer to represent all of us. Being self-assured, responsible, diligent, and adaptable in my approach to advocating for your opinions makes me the most qualified applicant. I have worked in Leadership roles for 6 years and have total experience of 13 years in different domains, with people at all levels, dealing with complex situations and getting the desired outcomes.

I am presently working as LBSU - Board of Trustee, Course Rep of SCML and Student Representative at CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply). I have been part of strategic planning in LBSU to enhance students' learning experience, doing so I have built strong relationships with leadership. Working in similar role I have the sense of understanding of student’s educational, professional and financial requirements.

As an Academic Experience Officer, my core goals will be:

• Methods of education, learning, and evaluation are constantly reviewed to ensure that it is rational, fair, and beneficial to our development
• Curriculum with flexible approach for students to choose between practical or theoretical learning methods
• Organizing guest lectures by Industry Specialists to share understanding of UK and Global Job Market
• Involving more industry visits to have on ground insight along with academic knowledge
• Making an improvised timetable for students to have enough time to cope between study, part-time work, and personal commitments and make the most of their time at LBU
• Amendment in Loan Laptop return policy from same day to 48 hours to enable easy use of the loan laptop facility for students
• Collaboration with organizations, course certifying bodies (like CIPS), and recruitment firms to organize tailor-made course specific job fairs, guidance for obtaining certifications & licenses, and to secure desirable jobs
• As an international student, I understand the importance of an orientation structure in a student's transition to university life. I pledge to plan an orientation program to familiarize students with the campus environment, faculties, infrastructure, and workforce.
• I plan to establish student led “Cross Course Workshops”, sharing different knowledge, experiences and building the gap between home and international students.
• Improved healthcare access for students to deal with pressing concerns such as anxiety
• Creating possibility for cheaper transport facility for students

Last but not least, I will assist students, course representatives, and student leaders in academic decision-making processes, ensuring your voices are heard and considered.

Being an empathetic person, I aspire to use this characteristic to help others. I promise to foster an environment that is equitable, inclusive, and diverse for all students, regardless of their background.

As student of LBU, I firmly believe I can bring in a clearer, broader and more student focused perspective into the decision-making process on student academics.

My determination, compassion, and devotion make me an excellent candidate for the Leeds Beckett Student Union's Academic Experience Officer position. I'm eager to collaborate and achieve all these goals together.
