Vote Raina for Welfare officer

Hi, I'm Raina, a graduate in English Honours currently pursuing an MSc in Psychology. As an international student, I bring a diverse cultural understanding to my work. I've dedicated myself to initiatives supporting basic education in slums and providing menstrual education to women and young girls in orphanages and slum areas. Advocating for practices like good touch, bad touch, and seeking help, I'm developing a platform for fear-free assistance provision. Through personal experience overcoming anxiety and depression, I've become an empath capable of understanding and effectively communicating the needs of others. I've actively served as an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) rep and course rep, empowered by my personal and professional experiences to lead with resilience, compassion, and approachability.

What I aim to achieve as the welfare officer-

Improving Financial Well-Being:

  • Affordable Accommodation: By facilitating connections with Unipol housing, I will ensure you access safe and budget-friendly accommodations, relieving the stress of housing insecurity and hence, can prioritize your academic pursuits.
  • International Guarantor Assistance: Advocate for support systems for international students to secure accommodation without needing a local guarantor.
  • Flexible Fee Payment: Lobby for the option to pay fees in more than two installments to alleviate financial strain on students.

Improving Mental Health Support Practices:

  • Anonymous Sexual Guidance and Menstruation Products: Ensure availability of menstrual products in every washroom and anonymous sexual guidance resources.
  • Treehouse Concept: Establish a non-judgmental space where individuals can seek and offer help without fear or shame, incorporating various therapy practices like art therapy, meditation, and yoga.
  • Art Therapy: Implement diverse art therapy practices including dancing, singing, music therapy, poetry, painting, visual arts, drama, open mic, storytelling, movie nights, karaoke, game days, and art and craft time.
  • Vent Box: Provide a platform for anonymous expression and support through letter-writing.
  • Active Anti-Discrimination Work: Engage in active initiatives against discrimination and racism within the university community.

Building an Inclusive Community:

  • Diverse Community Events: Organize events that foster inclusivity such as meditation and yoga sessions open to all students.
  • Education and Outreach: Continue educating on topics like good touch, bad touch, and seeking help, promoting a culture of empathy and support.
  • Accessible Mental Health Services: Advocate for increased accessibility to mental health services and destigmatization of seeking help.
  • Affordable Housing Advocacy: Work towards affordable housing options for students, prioritizing international and marginalized communities.

As a Welfare Officer, my vision is to create a nurturing environment where every student feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. Through financial assistance, mental health support, and inclusive community-building initiatives, I aim to foster a culture of empathy, resilience, and belonging within our university community. Together, let us build a brighter and more inclusive future for all students.
