Leeds Beckett University's NUS National Conference Representative's manifesto, "Elevating Voices, Driving Change,"

To the community at Leeds Beckett University,
It gives me great pleasure to offer my platform as Leeds Beckett University's candidate for National Union of Students (NUS) National Conference Representative. Let's set out on a road of advocacy, representation, and cooperation to bring our student body's varied voices to life and effect significant change at the federal level.

1. Inclusive Representation:

a. Intersectional Advocacy: I will tirelessly champion the various perspectives within our university, guaranteeing that marginalized groups, such as minorities, international students, and individuals with varying abilities, are afforded a forum to express their needs and concerns.
b. Cooperation with Student Societies: To comprehend the particular difficulties that different communities on our campus experience and to support their causes nationally, I pledge to work closely with student societies and organizations.

2. Accessible Education:

a. Affordability and Financial Support: I will actively participate in national conversations about student loans, financial aid, and tuition rates, pushing for laws that will increase everyone's access to and affordability of higher education.
b. Digital Inclusion: Considering the value of distance learning, I will advocate for laws that support digital inclusion so that all students, no matter what their circumstances, can fully engage in their academic experience.

3. Mental Health and Well-Being:

a. National Mental Health Initiatives: In partnership with the NUS, I will fight for more financing, less stigma, and better access to mental health services for all students national mental health support programs.
b. Well-being Resources: At the local level, I'll collaborate with our university to increase the number of well-being resources and programs available, promoting a campus climate that places a high value on mental and emotional well.

4. Environmental Sustainability:

a. National Sustainable Practices: I will champion national policies that encourage universities to embrace eco-friendly practices and lessen our overall carbon footprint, as well as national policies that support sustainability and environmental responsibility.
b. Local Campus Sustainability Initiatives: At Leeds Beckett University, I'll work with student organizations and the administration to put sustainable practices into action. Examples of these include energy-efficient projects, recycling campaigns, and green campus initiatives.

5. Student Engagement and Empowerment:

a. Contact Channels: To keep students updated on national happenings, get their feedback, and make sure their voices are heard on important topics, I will set up transparent and open channels of contact.
b. Workshops and Training: I'll try to offer workshops and training that encourage students to actively participate in the democratic process, developing a sense of civic duty and a hands-on approach to directing their educational journey.

I promise to be an ardent and committed advocate, representing Leeds Beckett University students' interests and concerns on a national scale, should I be chosen to serve as your NUS National Conference Representative. By working together, we can create an educational environment that is more empowered, inclusive, and reachable.
I appreciate your faith in me and your help.
Regards,

Dr. Abhishek Kapila (GP)
