Leeds Beckett SU will celebrate its first Refugee Awareness Week this May with a full week of eye opening and inspiring events.
1% of the world’s current population are refugees fleeing war, torture and persecution. Some of these 65.3 million refugees live in refugee camps across the world whilst others find shelter in unofficial camps and the streets of Europe.
If we do not act now millions of men, women and children will be left vulnerable to starvation, exploitation and uninhabitable temperatures.
Refugee Awareness Week will aim to raise awareness of the struggles millions of people are facing every day whilst motivating Leeds Beckett students and the wider community to take action to help. We have seen the great work students have done so far and want to expand this to show the University we have the capacity and the will to become a University of Sanctuary for refugees.
